Gerard Way: Weird Science
Those waiting for My Chemical Romance's latest album will soon be satisfied - but in the meantime, we've got an interview with the band's frontman, Gerard Way, about his latest musical adventure.
Pick up an issue of NYLON Guys on stands now, and check out this preview of the story:
Gerard, on writing the new album: "Once you unlock something lyrically and aesthetically, then a flood starts to happen. Sometimes it takes a while to get that flood to happen."
On Mexico's "Emo Murders:" "Mexico was the worst case. It became an epidemic. I felt heartbroken. While I codemn the hate crimes, why would I tell someone to stop being who they are? That would be irresponsible."
On their childhood garage, where the band started: "Fuck it was dark there. We had just slivers of sunlight, we were like mole people, me and Mikey. The neighborhood was kind of dangerous - you get a taste for using your imagination so you don't have to go outside."
On what's next. "I would love to spit on a celebrity."
On Lady Gaga: "I fucking love [Bad Romance]. I love the lyrics. Although... the whole la-la-la part seems like a place-holder to me."
On their muse for "Helena," his grandmother Elena: "You notice how a lot of hip-hop artists, they'll dedicate their albums to their grandmas. When we went to the VMAs that year, basically every hip-hop artist told us how much they liked the album - Jay-Z, Pharrell, Mike Jones, Puffy."
On part of his drug recovery. "My shrink said, 'I want you to go to the record store and buy Music for Airports by Brian Eno and sit in your car and listen to it. Then go home and get ready to go to AA... and my therapist actually got me into Brian Eno."

One Chapter Ends And Another Begins
Blog from the MyChemicalRomance site
Hello Friends, Recently it seems as though every time we write to you guys we have bad news, and we apologize for that, but we've learned in life you can't have the sweet without the sour. As a band we have been very fortunate over the years that our sweet times have greatly outweighed the sour ones, and a great deal of that is owed to you, the fans.
Which is why we wanted this news to come from us and not some bullshit gossip site. As of 4 weeks ago, My Chemical Romance and Bob Bryar parted ways. This was a painful decision for all of us to make and was not taken lightly. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors and expect you all to do the same.
We also wanted to give you all a quick heads up on how the record is progressing. We have been writing some very powerful new songs so this week the four of us entered the studio once again, and what has been ending up on tape each night is some of the most exciting and honest work we have ever created.

MCR Cancel Australian Shows
My Chemical Romance cancel their Soundwave appearance...but the ever brilliant Jimmy Eat World have confirmed as replacement.
MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE regretfully announce that they have been forced to cancel all upcoming engagements, including their appearance at The Soundwave Festival in Australia.
Singer Gerard Way has been having severe vocal problems and is under doctor's advisement to forgo the tour in order to receive treatment for his throat and vocal chords and protect their long-term use.
“We are really sorry that we’ve had to cancel this tour, and apologise for any inconvenience it has caused,” says singer Way. “The last thing we ever want to do is cancel shows, but we’ll be back to Australia to make it up to the fans as soon as possible.”
Patrons holding tickets to the MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE show at the Big Top, Luna Park on Thu 25 Feb are advised to contact their point of purchase to arrange a full refund of their tickets.
Soundwave would like to thank the ever brilliant JIMMY EAT WORLD who are interrupting their recording schedule in order to replace MCR on this year’s Soundwave bill.
JIMMY EAT WORLD have consistently held the number 1 spot as the most requested band by Soundwave fans (and staff!) and we look forward to having them on the festival after so many years of trying!
We are also thrilled to announce that JIMMY EAT WORLD will now join the already massive sideshow of GLASSJAW, SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE, MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK AND RX BANDITS.

My Chemical Romance Head To The Jersey Shore For Brash New Album
We're kicking off Rock Week at MTV News with a look at My Chemical Romance's yet-untitled new effort, which sees them ditching the preening and pancake makeup in favor of some seriously strutting riffs and more than a few nods to heavy metal's studded past.
Here's what we know about the album, the follow-up to MCR's ambitious 2006 rock opera The Black Parade: It will most certainly not be The Black Parade II.
More specifically, there will be no high-concept videos, no Queen-biting guitar heroics, no cameos by Liza Minnelli. Gone are the makeup and the uniforms and much of the pretense. Instead, we get MCR: stripped. For nearly a year now, they've been talking up the back-to-basics approach they've taken for album four, promising, "It's not going to be hiding behind a wall of fiction or uniforms and makeup anymore ... there's a purity to it," and calling it their "love letter to rock and roll."
My Chemical Romance : Spin Interview
My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way on New Album
After My Chemical Romance's grueling two-year tour in support of their hit third album, The Black Parade, the quintet put the band on hiatus and retreated to their personal lives to recover. Frontman Gerard Way married and had his first child, daughter Bandit Lee.
It was the chance to cover Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row" for the 2009 blockbuster/graphic novel adaptation of Watchmen that pried Way and his bandmates out of their houses, and found them beginning to formulate their next move. "It was a good test to play around with where we might potentially go," Way tells SPIN.com. "We started with the Sex Pistols and then decided to go back further, before punk. What was before punk that was punk? So there's the MC5 and the Stooges, and that Detroit sound."
